Access the Streets – April 2016

wheelie bin

The topic of this show is Access to the Streets. Following a GIG consultation it emerged that getting out and about on the streets and pavements of Brighton and Hove is no easy thing for many disabled people. Cracked pavements, misplaced wheelie bins, Advertising boards and street furniture pose potential hazards that severely restrict disabled people’s ability to access the same opportunities to work, shopping and leisure which we all enjoy.

The show raises these issues and offers some potential solutions. There are guest speakers:

Access the Streets 3

Clare Moonan – elected councillor for Central Hove

Dave Horwood – disabled volunteer at the Possability People

Gavin Stewart – from Brighton Business Improvement District and Brighton Economic Partnership

This show launches a GIG campaign on improving these issues locally which will include local businesses, the council, and relevant disability organisations. If you would like to find out more do feel welcome to get in touch.  Alternatively, if you have any ideas relevant to disabled people or their carers locally that you’d like us to air, we’d love to hear from you.  Our next topic is Welfare Reform with guest speaker Peter Kyle, MP for Hove.
