LGBT Disabled Persons Get Together 11/12/13

The GIG had been considering the concept of Intersectionality and at the previous Open Space meeting we had talked about how different identities can overlap and how sometimes people can become more isolated when facing prejudice due to belonging to different minority groups.
We initiated an LGBT Disabled Persons Get Together, in partnership with the LGBT HIP Project to identify if there was a gap in support for this group of individuals.

We had two meetings and it was agreed that the group wanted to continue beyond the scope of the two meetings we could provide and become self-sustainable with support from GIG or LGBT HIP where needed.

A facebook group was formed and the group came up with a mission statement:

We are an inclusive and intersectional group, giving a voice to LGBT disabled people in Brighton and Hove. Promoting equality and recognition by awareness raising, campaigning and providing a social forum for people to get involved.

Nick Douglas of the LGBT HIP project wrote the report on this which can be found here.
